How to Practice Self-Care When You Don’t Have Time

One of the top reasons it’s hard for you to practice self-care is because you quite literally don’t have the time for it.

It can be difficult busy, hard-working people to create space for self-care, but it’s not impossible. Below are 3 ways you can mindfully create space to take care of yourself better:

1. Avoid social media & answering emails as soon as you wake up.

Listen, (so) many of us do this. Try to replace immediately engaging with your phone with one part of your morning routine. Make your bed. Brush your teeth. Brew your coffee. You’ll be surprised how replacing this habit will free up more time for yourself in the mornings.

2. Try creating space in-between your meetings.

We all know that meetings can take up (a lot) of time out of your work day. So instead of scheduling your meeting hour to hour, try to leave 5-15 minutes between each of them. Dedicate that time to yourself: stand up and stretch, step outside for some sunshine, grab a snack, alleviate your feet, take a break from screens, etc.

3. Block out time for yourself in advance.

Take a look at your calendar — can you make an appointment with yourself for self-care?

I know it sounds a little funny, but it’s worth considering. If not this week, what about next week? Or the week after that? Can you reserve some time just for you? Quite literally block off time in your calendar just for yourself ahead of time and ✨honor✨ this self-commitment.

So much of recovering and preventing burnout is unlearning that you “never” have time to take care of yourself. On this journey, you deserve to creatively and mindfully create time for yourself.
