4 Ways to Feel Less Overwhelmed by Your To-Do List
Many high-achieving people experience what I like to call “to-do list overwhelm”.
You know, that feeling like your list of tasks keeps growing, no matter how many items you check off? In my workshop, Productive Task Management, I break down how stressful it can be to tackle the often demanding tasks on your to-do list. It even be anxiety-provoking to work through your tasks, day after day, with limited structure and mindfulness.
To help reduce some of that overwhelm & boost efficiency, here are a few mindful approaches you can use before diving into today’s to-do list:
Ask yourself: How am I (really) feeling today?
Consider checking in with yourself & your energy level before diving head first into your to-do list. Acknowledging how you feel & how much energy you (really) have can help you re-prioritize your schedule & maximize your day.
What can operate without you today?
As you skim your to-do list, ask yourself which tasks & responsibilities can be planned to do on different day or can be delegated to someone or something else.
Who (or what) can assist you today?
Practice considering who in your community and/or what resources are at your disposal to help you complete your tasks and responsibilities today. Try your best to practice interrupting habits (& narratives) where you are always the only one doing all the things.
Check in on yourself daily.
Daily self check-ins can not only help reduce overwhelm, but this practice can also help mindfully increase the efficiency in how you approach your routines. In adding practical and effective habits like this to your day, you naturally create more room for rest and ease into your everyday life.
